Our Parish Pastoral Planning team led extensive consultations with parishioners in 2021 to consider suitable projects and events to mark the 150th anniversary of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, designed by William Hague and built by the parishioners under the leadership of Fr. Peter O’Reilly in 1872. There was a great consensus among the parishioners that stained glass windows should be installed in the north and south transepts of the church. These would compliment the outstanding stained glass already in our church by Evie Hone, Patrick Pollen, Eoin Butler, Margaret Becker and the Harry Clarke studios.
The contract for the project was awarded to artist Patrick Muldowney and Emerald Glass under the supervision of local conservation architect and parishioner, Niall Smith. Many months of detailed work has been prepared for the project and the newly designed windows to be installed were announced last week.
One window will be dedicated to Our Lady while the other to three Ulster saints, Saint Bronach, St. Colmcille and Saint Killian of Mullagh, Cavan.
