St Mary’s Parish, Kingscourt – Parish Trip to Vienna & Salzburg
Tuesday 20 – Monday 26 September 2016
Home of magnificent buildings, elegant palaces, fine art, classical music, waltzes, coffee shops and beautiful gardens …… this is Vienna where you will be spending 3 nights before heading to the lovely Baroque romantic city of Salzburg, dominated by its 900 year old castle, for the remainder of your holiday. Whilst in Vienna stroll through the narrow lanes in the old town, visit and celebrate Mass in the splendid St. Stephen’s Cathedral and afterwards sample the famous Sachertorte or delicious strudel. Then on to Salzburg visiting en route the famous Melk Abbey overlooking the Danube and run by the Benedictines. Salzburg has strong Irish links.
St. Feargal is the much revered patron saint of the city and laid the foundation stone of the Cathedral.
His remains are interred there. Mozart and the Sound of Music won’t be overlooked either!

Tuesday 20 September
Depart Dublin on direct flight to Vienna. Afternoon at leisure.
Wednesday 21 September
Celebrate Mass in St Stephen’s Cathedral followed by walking tour of the city. Remainder of day at leisure.
Thursday 22 September
At leisure. Optional: Strauss & Mozart concert in the Kursalon.
Friday 23 September
Travel from Vienna to Salzburg stopping en route at Melk Abbey (famous Benedictine Abbey founded in 1089) overlooking the Danube. Celebrate Mass here. Arrive in Salzburg in late afternoon.
Saturday 24 September
Morning : guided walking tour of Salzburg. Celebrate Mass in St. Peter’s Church. Afternoon at leisure
for personal sightseeing.
Sunday 25 September
Mass in the Cathedral. Afternoon enjoy The Sound of Music tour to include the original film locations
Mirabell Gardens and Pegasus Fountain; Leopoldskron Palace (where the Trapp family lived) and
Nonnberg Convent and the Mondsee Church.
Monday 26 September
Morning at leisure. Celebrate Mass in the local church. Afternoon depart to Munich for return flights to Dublin.
