Very Rev. Dr. Padraig Murphy, M.A.,M.Phil, DD, Ecumenical Director for the Archdiocese of Armagh was the guest preacher at the recent annual Ecumenical service to mark the octave of prayer for Christian Unity at Saint Ernan’s Church of Ireland, Kingscourt In his address he noted that in our own country how church issues are not news worthy except when there is scandal or conflict. He went on to say that increasingly,it might seem that our Christain faith is being relegated to the sidelines of society,as if it were of no consequence. Our responsibility, is to live lives which witness to the truth about God,who in Christ saved the world. We must have the courage to proclaim to the world that our ultimate and universal source of all hope in the future is to be found in Jesus and in Him alone. He concluded by saying that the more our prayer and efforts are sincere and echoing the prayer of the Spirit within us, the more we will rejoice to hear those words, You shall be my people and I will be your God. The service was led by Rev. William Stacey, Rector of the Kingscourt Union of Parishes and Fr. Gerry MacCormack, P.P.,Kingscourt.
