In partnership with World Meeting of Families 2018, the Catholic Schools Week Steering Committee has developed a one-year catechetical programme for Catholic primary and post-primary schools. The theme of this programme is Catholic Schools: Called to be a Family of Families. The programme invites Catholic schools to reflect on and to celebrate the relationship that exists between home, school and parish through participation in four sub-themed catechetical moments. Read more here.

As we set out on the journey of preparation to WMOF2018, parishes all over Ireland have been immersing themselves in the Amoris: Let’s Talk Family! Let’s Be Family! Programme. A resource pack has been sent out to every parish on the island. The Amoris team has been providing training to facilitators to enthuse and prepare those who will be delivering the six-session parish conversations and have developed a series of training videos. We have also uploaded resources for the Practical Initiatives for Popular Moments to the Amoris dedicated website:

EXPLANATION AND REFLECTIONS ON THE WMOF2018 ICON OF THE HOLY FAMILY An icon is not like a photograph, nor is it a portrait. It is an image which invites us to prayer. Today, we invite you to pray with the Icon of the Holy Family. We encourage you to discover the icon, what each figure, colour, posture and element represents. There are narratives within the images, references to other icons and symbols that invite us to immerse ourselves in the mystery of love and the Gospel of the Family. Download Explanation and Reflections on the Icon here. English. Irish. SpanishFrench, Italian, Portuguese, German and Polish following soon.

VOLUNTEER NEWS Let’s continue being family to each other now, and shape the future together.
We are delighted to announce that we have 1400 volunteers now registered with WMOF2018! Our thanks to each of them. We will be needing many thousand more volunteers. Why not consider joining us as a volunteer if you have not already done so? Apply to volunteer NOW! Click here.
DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU CAN VOLUNTEER AS A GROUP? If you have a parish group, school group, college group, community group – or indeed just a bunch of friends – you can register to volunteer together as a Group.  The benefits of volunteering as a group include: sharing the volunteering experience with your friends/colleagues, being in the same venue and at the same times, the possibility of travelling together, etc.  In this way, the volunteering experience of World Meeting of Families 2018, lives on well after the event is over.
To volunteer as a group, all you need to do is choose a group name and your group leader’s name; and enter this on your online application. Everyone within that group needs to enter the same group name when they are filling in their Volunteer Online application form. So please invite and encourage as many people from your communities as you can to join our Volunteering Team for this once in a lifetime event.

POPE FRANCIS VISITED THE DICASTERY FOR LAITY, FAMILY AND LIFE Last week, Pope Francis visited the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life. He met with the staff, who were very enthusiastic, grateful and happy to welcome him. The last visit by a Pontiff was in June 1979, when Pope John Paul II came to the then Pontifical Council for the Laity. The Holy Father left a message, which the staff have shared with us all: “Do not be afraid, expand the horizons, and go out to listen to the reality of the people and to announce Jesus Christ. Please do not forget to pray for me. May Jesus bless you and the Holy Virgin take care of you.” Visit the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life.

An Italian delegation, who are bringing a large group of pilgrims from seven dioceses, paid us a visit. © World Meeting of Families 2018
